Head of AMCHAM to Be Commisioner of FKI

The president of the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) in Korea, Jeffrey Jones, will join the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI)' newly-established affiliated committee, 'International Cooperation Commission', as a commissioner.
To elect a foreign commissioner to the FKI's affiliated committee, consisting of chairmen and presidents of member corporations, is unprecedented.
A source in the FKI said on Monday, 'We assigned Mr. Jones to the post, as he is the head of an economic organization residing in Korea. The committee's role to deal with overseas cooperation has been under consideration as well.'
The first election of a foreign member is likely to bring about changes to FKI's policy and administration, which has been limited to domestic concerns.
According to the commission's schedule, Jones will participate in the establishment ceremony of the commission next month and attend monthly meetings to discuss the commission's policy direction and activities.
The commission, consisting of seven commissioners, will hold a monthly regular meeting to attract foreign capital and cultivate closer relations among domestic and international corporations.
