Torn Books on Exhibition

An exhibition of damaged books in the lobby of the Kyung Hee University library began June 14.
The 'Destroyed Books Exhibition', displaying 60 badly damaged books, was planned by the University to arouse students' attention.
Kyung Hee said that up to 500 books are rendered useless by students every year.
Among the books on show, expensive art and design books form the majority, of which parts have been cut out, sections of more than ten pages ripped out or pages simply filled with scribblings.
The chief librarian, Kim Jae Hong said, 'The expense generated by replacing or repairing vandalized books reaches ten million won a year. This exhibition attempts to inform students of the waste.'
The University plans to punish students according to school regulations and request compensation in the event that returned books are damaged.
