Korea May Claim Damages Against Belgium

Korea seems to be considering legal action against Belgium with relation to dioxin-tainted livestock and dairy products imported from Belgium.
Agriculture and Forestry Minister Kim Sung Hoon, in a meeting with Belgian Ambassador Renier Nijskens Tuesday, said that the Korean government might claim damages against its Belgian counterpart, if the European country turns out to be responsible for shipping dioxin-tainted livestock products to Korea.
Kim also expressed his regret that the Belgian government belatedly informed the Korean government of the possible contamination of Belgian livestock products circulated here.
According to Ministry sources, Ambassador Nijskens officially apologized to Minister Kim for the tardy notification. The sources added that the Belgian ambassador did not request that Korean government should immediately lift the ban on the sales of Belgian livestock products in Korea.
