Waiting Will Be Compensated at Gov"t Office

'We will pay money to visitors who are forced to wait even when they have made an appointment.'
The Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MOCAT) introduces a 'Service Charter for Citizens' from June 23, which pledges to pay 1,000 won for every 10 minutes wait.
According to the Charter, MOCAT will also pay 5,000 won to visitors in the event they have to come again due to a mistake by public officials.
Delay in replying to a citizen's question will also cost the Ministry 5,000 won, while a three-day time limit is set on replying to questions put in writing. A certain promise is also made on questions asked by telephone.
The public service personnel should answer the phone within three rings, and it will be reflected in service records if citizens complain three times about a civil servant.
A source in the ministry said, 'We decided to establish this charter as MOCAT achieved the lowest evaluation in a recent survey on citizen satisfaction with the service provided by governmental administrations. The cost of compensating citizens will be appropriated from the relevant bureau's expense account.
