No Development in Pankyo Area
Lee Kun-choon, minister of construction and transportation, Wednesday said in a meeting with press editors, 'There will be no approval for developing housing complexes in and around Pankyo area in Kyonggi Province in order to prevent excessive metropolitan enlargement.'He emphasized that as a new apartment complex in the Yongin area has been developed, additional adjacent expansion in Pankyo will definitely cause terrible gridlock around southern Kyonggi Province.
The Pankyo area is being considered by the local government there as a candidate for developing a new city.
It is surrounded by fields and forests and the land prices have risen steeply as rumors of development have spread over the years.
