Gov. Regains 4.2 Million Square Yards from U.S. Army

The Ministry of National Defense Monday revealed that 4.23 million square yards of land which had been lent to the U.S. army with no charge will soon be returned.
It announced that it has recently agreed with the U.S. to hand back those territories, which are infrequently used, and letters of understanding were exchanged to that effect.
The land returned includes a shooting-practice ground of 4.1 million square yards in Pochun city in Kyonggi province, the Seoul House officers' club in Choongjongro and communications bases in Okku and Yoju.
The Korean military authority will be selling back the land to the original landowners at 80 percent of the current market price.
The Ministry has been negotiating with the U.S. army since 1987.
Seoul House was once famous as a social club inaugerated in 1951, but has lost this image due to its aging facilities and the economic hardship.
