Kim Hyon-chol Pays $3.5 Million in Fines

Kim Hyon-chol, second son of the former president Kim Young-sam, who was found guilty on charges of tax dodging and bribery, paid 3.5 million dollars in fines and additional tax charges on Monday as ordered by the court.
He was pardoned by the current president Kim Dae-jung last week, and was exempted from serving the remaining period of his sentence.
Kim was put in jail in June 1997 when his father was still in power but was released the following November on bail.
He is also known to have paid an additional 2.2 million dollars which was left in his presidential election funds to a civil charity organization, as he had previously promised he would.
