Citizens" Coalition Against Corruption Launched

Civil organizations throughout the country, including Hung Sa Dan and the National Council of YMCAs of Korea, announced on August 24 the formation of a 'Citizens' Coalition Against Corruption'.
The honorary president of Saint Peter's School, Kim Sung-soo and the minister Kim Gu-sung have been selected as chairman and secretary-general of the organization respectively.
Citizens from 843 civil organizations urged at the declaration of the foundation's launch, 'We cannot expect our society to develop before we rid of the dishonest powers and organized corruption in every sector. The political circle should enact an anti-corruption law and organize a special committee to this end, which is led by the civil sector.'
Mayor of Seoul Koh Kun said in his congratulatory address, 'We hope the citizens' coalition leads a national movement to expel various corruptions from our society.'
The citizens' coalition plans to establish 150 regional centers and an Internet complaint center, while constructing a database of corruption cases and relevant individuals.
The civil organization will enact a citizens' anti-corruption charter and periodically survey the integrity index of governmental administrations and corporations, while seeking to cooperate with international civil organizations.
