Investigation on Bank Accounts Face Strict Guidelines

The justice minister on Wednesday ordered the Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office to impose strict restrictions on the selection of bank accounts and period of their banking transactions to be probed in the event prosecutors investigate the accounts.
The minister made the decision in order to block controversy on human rights and right-to-privacy violations as well as improper use of investigations stemming from probing into bank accounts.
In its special order on the range and limitation of investigations of bank accounts, the Ministry of Justice stated that any investigation should be carried out with a minimum of intrusion if possible, and that prosecutors' inspections will be limited in principle only on the bank accounts held by suspects.
Additional investigation by prosecutors will be allowed in the event that they again apply for a warrant for seizing and investigating bank accounts after appending the original application, supplying sufficient reason why prosecutors should probe further into the accounts.
