President Kim Departs for APEC Summit Talks in Auckland

President Kim Dae-jung and his wife Lee Hee-ho will depart for New Zealand on the afternoon of September 10 to participate in the seventh Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Meeting in Auckland, followed by state visits to New Zealand and Australia.
President Kim will on September 12 meet with U.S President Bill Clinton and Japanese Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi in a trilateral summit, where they are to discuss ways to coordinate their North Korea policies, based on the outcomes of ongoing missile talks in Berlin between the U.S. and NK.
At an APEC meeting scheduled for September 12 and 13, President Kim is to outline the Korean government's efforts towards economic recovery through resolute reform. He aims to upgrade national credibility by emphasizing his will for reforms in every sector.
After the APEC meeting, President Kim plans to hold summit talks with Australian Prime Minister John Howard and New Zealand Prime Minister Jenny Shipley during his state visits to the 2 countries.
President Kim will return to Korea on September 18.
