78 % of Domestic Firms Plan New Employment This Year

Four out of five domestic companies plan to hire new employees, who will graduate from colleges early next year.
The employment research institute Recruit released a report on the domestic firms' employment plans, which is based on a survey of 404 companies from August 1 to September 9.
According to the report, 78.2 percent of the firms surveyed have plans to hire new workers this year. The number of potential employees to be hired totaled 14,600, a two-fold jump from 7,450 recorded last year.
Classified by sector, the number of new potential employees in both the finance and the telecommunications sectors increased by about two times to 3,600 and 2,000 respectively, while the civil engineering, construction and textile sectors appeared to be planning to take on less new employees than they did last year.
Notably, almost all of the state-run corporations surveyed planned not to hire new employees.
The average annual wage of new male employees, recently graduated from university, was estimated at 17 million won. The wage of potential employees in the finance, electronics, information and telecommunications sectors will average almost 20.39 million won, while those in trade, distribution and transportation industries will get the lowest average pay of 15.5 million won.
The wage gap between listed and unlisted firms has almost disappeared, the report said.
