YS Delays Re-organization of Alpine Society
Former-President Kim Young-sam (YS) Monday announced that he will put off the re-organization of his personal club called the 'Democratic Alpine Society' until after the 16th general election scheduled for April 2000.YS's private secretary and member of the National Assembly, Park Jong-woong, backtracked on comments he had made earlier by saying, 'Although I did not mean it, lots of people have misunderstood the club as a political organization for uniting various powers together against current president Kim Dae-jung. I postpone the organization's forming until next year.'
One of the reasons for the decision is there has been strong negative opinions circulating and YS did not want to take responsibility for losing the election and possibly being criticized for dividing the opposition party's capacity.
YS however, emphasized that he will keep meeting with people while reproaching the government's dictatorship.
He had been propelling the organization since late July to promote his comeback to the political world.
