Head of Citi Bank"s Branch Office Commits Suicide

The head of Citi Bank's branch office at Myongdong in downtown Seoul was found drowned in the Han River at 1:30 p.m. on October 9.
After leaving a note to his family members before he left on the morning of October 6, he killed himself by plunging into the river.
It is reported that the head, with the surname of Ahn, aged 36, who has worked in the bank since 1987, has suffered from stress from overwork since he moved to the position in March 1999.
Citi Bank's labor union insisted that the bank has expoited its workers' labor in underhand ways, adding that the head expressed his suffering because he could not sleep more than an hour a day.
The labor union said that 74.5 percent of the bank's 511 employees surveyed by a poll agency are considering transferring to other jobs because of the bank's bad labor conditions.
