Cigarettes and Alcohol Warnings Prohibiting Underage Sales

For the first time in the country, cigarettes and alcohol packaging will come with a warning message reading 'Not to be sold to youth under 19 years of age' on October 15.
The Commission on Youth Protection of the Office of the Prime Minister announced Friday that all cigarettes and alcohol sold must have a warning message clearly displayed on labels as a consequence of the September 10 revision of the Youth Protection Act, which places liqour and cigarette manufacturers under an obligation to print the warning message on every product.
The commission also required broadcasters and the Korean Broadcasting Commission to cease airing programs or advertisements that contain young people smoking or drinking, while asking the Ministry of Health and Welfare to promote a broad non-smoking and non-drinking campaign for youth.
