Generals Investigated in Military Corruption Probe
National Defense Minister Cho Sung-tae announced on October 18 that the ministry has investigated a military general working in the Defense Security Commander(DSC) on involvement in the discharging of a soldier from the military due to a questionable illness supposedly acquired while serving his mandatory military service.Another general who worked in the DSC has also been scrutinized by a military investigation team on the charge of calling for his staff to directly intervene in a case connected with a conscripted soldier petitioning for discharge.
In the National Assembly's probe into the ministry, the defense minister said that the team will summon the two military generals to delve more deeply into their alleged involvement.
Cho also said that the ministry will conduct inspections of the entire DSC to determine whether it obstructed or exerted heavy influence on investigations into military corruption and bribery by military investigation authorities.
