Smoking in School Buildings to be Prohibited

Smoking in primary, middle, and high schools and universities and bathhouses will be prohibited from December 1.
As a consequence, university students and teachers will not be able to smoke in school buildings.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on October 26 that it is to introduce the revised regulation for health concerns from December.
School directors must establish a separate confined smoking area within the school building to avoid the one-million-won fine payable by violaters of the regulation.
However, the bid to prohibit smoking in computer games rooms and cartoon houses was turned down due to protests by owners of these establishments.
Other newly-designated non-smoking buildings include medical institutes, inns, marriage ceremony halls, concert halls with over 300 seats and offices larger than 3,000 square meters.
