Jung"s Disclosure Causes Shock Wave
The opposition Grand National Party (GNP) assemblyman Jung Hyung-keun's divulgence in the National Assembly of alleged evidence that the current government has tried taming the press by forcible methods, has been causing ripples of shock across the nation. The GNP demanded the apology of the paper's recipient President Kim Dae-jung, while the ruling National Congress for New Politics (NCNP) requested that Jung explain how he was able to obtain the paper.
GNP President Lee Hoi-chang Tuesday stated at Kangnung, 'As we've already seen in the case of JoongAng Ilbo, the press coercion is being carried out in certain ways. We want a national audit to reveal the truth.'
Jung emphasized, 'I have more documents to disclose. Let's wait and see.'
On the other hand, NCNP acting president Lee Man-sop mentioned, 'It is absurd to believe the paper's details which Jung fabricated in the knowledge of his legal immunity.'
The NCNP will however file a lawsuit against Jung on the charge of personal libel as soon as possible.
