Korea-US Extradition Treaty Valid in December

An extradition treaty between Korea and the United States will go into effect in December, the government announced Sunday.
According to the Ministry of Justice on October 31, the U.S. will convene a Senate Foreign Affairs committee on November 3 to pass the bill which was signed by the two countries' leaders last June.
The ministry explained that as soon as the bill receives the senators stamp of approval, which is expected, the new legislation will become valid on the spot.
The Korean administration will immediately request the extradition of seven suspects like Lee Seok-hee. The former vice chief of the Office of the National Tax Administration fled to the U.S. after allegations he illicitly collected political funds from chaebol groups for current opposition leader Lee Hoi-chang in his presidential race two years ago against President Kim Dae-jung.
On the other hand, the American government reportedly will ask for a Korean-American charged with committing murder in the U.S.
The ministry stated that among all 631 suspects who have fled the country, 263 are staying in the U.S.
