FBI Hints at Delivery of Two Korean Suspects

The United States' Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said on November 9 that it intends to deliver two Koreans suspected of corruption to the relevant Korean authorities.
Those who are in line for forced repatriation are Lee Seok-hee, former vice chief of the Office of National Tax Administration who is related with the tax collection scandal for then-candidate Lee Hoi-chang during the presidential election in 1997, and Lee Seok-chae, former Minister of Information and Communications who is believed to have influenced the selection of business companies for cellular phone projects.
At the 68th Interpol session in Seoul, the FBI replied that it would respond to the Korean government's request as soon as the newly-agreed extradition act becomes effective between the two countries.
Kim Kwang-sik, head of the National Police Bureau mentioned, 'At the moment, 491 suspects have fled to foreign nations, 242 to the States, and the number reaches 3,000 if unofficial desertions are included.'
