Han Kwang-ok Appointed as Chief Secretary to Blue House

President Kim Dae-jung appointed Han Kwang-ok, vice-president of the National Congress for New Politics (NCNP), as Chief Secretary to the Blue House on November 23.
Presidential spokesman Park Joon-young said Tuesday, 'President Kim selected vice-President Han because Han is the right person to stabilize the political situation and implement political innovation.'
Park added, 'The President thinks that the political sector has been moving in the wrong direction, while other governmental sectors, including economic, social and diplomatic sectors, have been operating successfully. Han is expected to create conditions conducive to the cooperation of the NCNP, the Blue House and the ruling coalition.'
President Kim is also likely to appoint a new senior political secretary to the president, to be recommended by the acting president of the NCNP, Lee Man-sup.
The newly-appointed Chief Secretary to the Blue House, Han Kwang-ok, said, 'I'll act as the lubricant between the party, government and Blue House. My role is to strengthen the relationship between the NCNP and its coalition partner, the United Liberal Democrats, and to improve relations with the opposition Grand National Party.'
