Police Probe into Forged International Driver"s Licenses

Police have been investigating forged international driver's licenses, which claim to have been issued by the United Nations (UN).
The counterfeit driver's license, entitled the 'UN-issued international driver's license', has been sold on claims that it is used in all countries around the world, and has been bought by Korean businessmen who frequently leave Korea, and students seeking to study abroad, the National Police Agency (NPA) said.
An official at the NPA stated that his office has recently been swamped with telephone inquiries concerning the supposedly UN-issued driver's license.
He said that international driver's licenses are issued not by the UN but by the states in which Koreans seek to live or stay, adding that the forged driver's license alleges that it can also be used as an international identity card.
The NPA has arrested three suspects on the charge of selling the licenses, believed to have been counterfeited by them also, to 470 people.
