Act for Expatriate Koreans Introduced

An act for Koreans residing in other countries, which secures the legal status of expatriate Koreans, was introduced on December 3.
As a consequence, Koreans residing in other countries can visit Korea freely for a two-year period after their registration certificate is issued, and can open bank accounts, buy real estate and obtain medical insurance.
The Ministry of Justice has also decided to implement an additional proposal to simplify the entrance and sojourn procedures for Koreans living in China, who are not subject to the new act.
According to the simplified conditions, Koreans born in Korea and residing in China can visit Korea without an invitation.
The ministry plans to permit the employment of these Korean residents of China, on the condition they meet certain requirements.
