Cho Soon's Kwanhoon Press Conference

Cho Soon, the chairman of the Democratic People's Party(DPP), was asked if he intended to refuse the support of former Korean president Kim Yong-sam. Cho Soon answered that he felt that there was no reason to reject Kim's support. This was from a press meeting on March 9 in the Kwanhoon Club.
Cho suggested that the reorganization of the present political parties' would collapse after the general elections, and answered that the DDP would be careful not to induce divisive regionalism.
Some of the important questions and answers were:

Q: Why did some leaders of the DPP, including you (Cho), not stand as candidates for the regional election?
A: I felt that informing the people about why the DPP was established was more important and would help the members running in the election more. We didn't run in the election but we helped through the lecturing tour.

Q: How many seats do you wish to win?
A: About 40 to 50 seats. Because the political circles are going to be reorganized, it will not matter which party a person is elected through, Grand National Party (GNP) or DDP.

Q: Members of the leading group of the DDP are reported to be inducing regional disharmony.
A: Being elected by depending on divisive regionalism is wrong. Please don't think it is the DDP's strategy for being elected.

Q: Candidates in the general elections continue to visit former president Kim, do you have any intention to refuse his support?
A: If Kim agrees with our position, I think I would not refuse his support.
