Students Changing Registration to Vote in Univesity Districts

A movement for student to transfer their voting district from their home districts to the university districts is quickly spreading to almost all universities in order to defeat or elect specific candidates in upcoming elections. The movement is being led by the university students, including students at Wonju Campus of Yonsei University.
Joongang Ilbo confirmed and reported that some students in 20 Korean universities, including Korea Academic Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), are participating in this movement.
The Federation of Korean Industries (FKI), which generally initiates civic group political movement, praised this movement. The FKI is reportedly discussing accepting and helping to facilitate this movement as one of its official activities.

Kil Jun-mo, a student representative of KAIST, stated that most of the students are registered to vote in other areas (not the university district), and so elections have not actually accurately reflected their opinions. He added that student government is considering spreading the registration transfer movement to more universities.

Professor Lee Dong-il, Chunan Campus of Tangook University, expressed his opinion that in spite of the lively discussions about participation in the election campaign, actual partipation activities have not yet been organized, and that he will encourage the students to join in this movement together.

Assuming that the registration transfer movement is a new form of participation for voters, Lee Seok-yeon, a Secretary of FKI, stated that soon he will petition an upper committee to help the movement.
