66 Sons of the Social Celebrities Summoned for the Military Matter

The investigation of 66 sons of social celebrities, including former and current members of the National Assambly, will be completed before the national election starts. The 66 young men were summoned due to suspicions that they avoided military service even though they were eligible.
The investigation team, operated jointly by the prosecutor's office and the military, announced that the investigation team found that the 66 young men may have committed possible military offenses by avoiding service.
With less than one month until the national election on April 18, this announcement will become a critical political issues, since the investigation includes sons of former and current members of the National Assembly.
Mr. Lee Seung-koo, a senior prosecutor, stated that from the list submitted in February 2000 by the Anti-Corruption Network in Korea (ACNK) to Chung Wa Dae about suspected military offenses, the investigation team will pursue the cases of 66 men, whose ages are under 35, and were exempted from military service after April 1990.
The cut off age is 35 because anyone who is older than 35 does not have to enter military service, and the 10 year statute of limitation limits the investigation to those who were exempted from the military service after April 1990.
