Religious Leaders Appeal for Clean and Fair Election
A meeting of religious leaders urged the government not to intervene during the upcoming April 13 General Election and instead remain 'strictly neutral'. Leaders from the 7 major religions of Korea - Christianity, Buddhism, Catholicism, Won Buddhism, Chondogyo, Confucianism and Shamanism - held a meeting at Korea House, Pil-dong, Seoul on March 23 to draw up an appeal for a 'Fair and Clean election'.In the appeal, the religious leaders unveiled their demands, including sincere efforts from candidates to conduct a fair and transparent election, to reject bribery, smear campaigns and most of all, to avoid stirring up regionalism. The appeal goes on to ask the parties and candidates to abide by the election code and thus limit the excessive usage of campaign funds and rather concentrate on their policies. The appeal also asked for active particiaption from voters.
