U.S. Department of Commerce Announces Dumping Margins for Korean Polyester Filam

The U.S. Department of Commerce announced dumping margins of from 8 to 14 percent for polyester filaments exported by Korean textile firms Tuesday (Korean time) in response to the dumping suits filed by American textile companies.
The matter now awaits a final ruling by the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), which will decide whether Korean exports have a serious impact on the American textile industry. If the ITC rules the American industry has indeed suffered serious damage, Korean exporters will have to pay additional antidumping duties equivalent to the dumping margins announced Tuesday for each respective company. The ITC will make the final ruling on May 5.
Among the Korean textile exporters, Samyung was slapped with a dumping margin of 7.96 percent, Geum Poong with 14.1 percent, and other companies with 11.38 percent. Only Samyang escaped from the dumping charges by being placed with a minuscule dumping margin of 0.14 percent.
Polyester filaments are used to stuff sleeping bags, mattresses, ski suits, and cushions. Korean exports account for more than 60 percent of the entire demand in the United States, and the export volume last year reached $75 million.
