CEMC Asks For Restraint By Lee Hoi-chang And The Government

The Centeral Election Management Committee (CEMC) announced that it requested that both prime minister Park and Lee Hoi-chang restrain their aggressive and spiteful advertisements. The request came on the heels of a particularly vituperative newspaper article published in a Seoul daily on March 22. The article discussed how four national ministries had wasted and loss a great deal of national wealth.
The CEMC sent an official letter to Lee Hoi-chang (Grand National Party) explaining that he may criticize the policies of the government and the current administration, but if he criticizes specific items related to Korea's national interests, he risks violating election laws (article 250).
An official from the CEMC also pointed out that if the government continues to include counter-criticisms in its replies to the opposition's attacks, a dispute over the involvement by the government in the upcoming election might occur.
