Chen To Improve Taiwan-Korea Relations

Taiwanese president-elect Chen Shui-bian has hinted at plans to improve relations between Korea and Taiwan.
Mr. Chen answered reporters' questions about the relationship between Korea and Taiwan with an optimistic smile. After a press conference at the CEC building in Taipei on March 23, Chen insisted that Taiwan-Korea relations will certainly improve.
International Department of the Democratic Progressive Party deputy-chief Rui Se-Jung reported on March 24 that the new president will approach Korean matters in a rational and sincere manner. This new attitude is markedly different than that of the Nationalist Party which cast a cold eye on Korea. Riu also revealed that Mr. Chen is considering expanding non-political exchanges in areas including economics, academics, culture, and sports to help improve relations between Korea and Taiwan.
