Prosecutors Declare War on Syndicates

Prosecutors have been requested to strengthen their grip on organized crime in order to minimize interference in the April 13 general election,

In a conference of chief prosecutors held March 27, Park Soon-yong, public prosecutor general ordered colleagues to, "Monitor the movements of syndicate heads and clamp down on any suspect activities."

Prosecutors will focus on crime syndicate's use of violent or undemocratic means to control candidates and public officials, for example, interrupting candidate speeches, vandalising election-related facilities, vote-rigging and other illegal activities.

The 162 nationwide syndicates and their leaders are now therefore a priority concern for prosecutors.
