Korea-Japan Jointly Plant Trees For Arbor Day

For the upcoming Arbor Day on April 5, Seoul City and Oita City of Japan will plant trees in Peace Park of Nanjido, Seoul to commemorate the co-hosting of the 2002 World Cup.

Another 100 trees will be planted in Japan on April 23 of next year, the Japaense Arbor Day, but this time by Seoul City delegates.

Seoul City announced on March 31 that 100 people, acting as a tree-planting delegation from Japan, will plant pagoda trees, zelkova trees, ginko trees and others, which were selected by Seoul authorities as 'Millennium Trees.'

The tree-planting delegation will include the governor of Oita City, the boys' soccer team, and members of civic groups.

Authorities of Seoul City and Oita City have decided to adopt a joint declartaion of the 'Green Network,' which induces each other to cultivate a green environment and to strengthen bilateral ties of exchange and cooperation.

Currently Seoul City and Japan are both leading tree-planting movements named 'Planting 10 million trees' and 'Construction of 21st century forest.'

Park In-gku the cheif of landscape section said "We are also planning to send a delegation of 100 people next year to Oita City to plant trees." He continued,"This could hopefully be an opportunity to foster a movement for environmentally friendly World Cup cities,too."
