Election Violators Punished Severely

The Public Security Department of the Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office (SPPO) released a report on April 2 instructing prosecution authorities to keep in custody and investigate violators and electioneers who interrupt election campaign rallies and sentence them severely.

Earlier, Minister of Justice Kim Jung-kil, instructed the SPPO on April 1 to aid the election management committee officials by thoroughly investigation any violators the elaction law.

A spokesperson for the prosecutors office revealed that individuals who attempt to illegally influence election management committee officials or candidates will be sentenced to up to ten years imprisonment or fines of up to $27,000.

Meanwhile, President Kim Dae-jung speaking on April 1 expressed concern over reports of possible election irregularities and instructed election management committe officials to punish violators severely, said Chong Wa Dae spokesman Park Joon-young.
