Election Candidates' Shoddy Credit Histories

Election candidates, 141 of the nation's 1,040 candidates, have bad credit histories and are restricted because of long-standing debts and failure to meet loans. Joongang Ilbo has discovered with the help of a credit-research bureau
that 69 candidates were 'unreliable' or people with 'red warnings' meaning they could not deal with banks and were ineligible for any loans or credit cards.

Seventeen of the candidates were marked with a 'yellow' warning. They would only be able to enjoy a bank's services on the invitation of the bank in question. With this yellow marker, the person or candidate has virtually the same as a person with a 'red warning' on their credit history.

Another 55 candidates are re-organizing their finances with debts re-paid.

Information on tax payments, income and military service are alrady open to scrutiny.

Crictics have pointed out that credit history of whole candidates should be opened to the public by the government.

This is sure to make interesting fodder for the elections.

The nation goes to the polls April 13th.
