Campaigns for More Voting in Tomorrow's Election

With but two days to go before the general election candidates of the ruling and opposition parties are going all out during their campaign rallies and public appearances to turn out the vote.

The opposition parties have engaged in a fiery debate over the real motives behind the recently announced summit talks between the two Koreas. Parties have also traded allegations of illegal campaign fundraising and undue government interference in the election campaign.

Leaders of President Kim's Millenium Democratic Party (MDP) attended campaign rallies in 32 voting districts to emphasize the importance of the upcoming summit meeting with North Korea, in an effort to draw more voters to the ruling party.

Meanwhile, Lee Hoi-chang, head of the Grand National Party asked voters to support the GNP, at the same time warning voters not to be misled by the issue of the summit talks.

Kim Jong-pil, chairman of the United Liberal Democrats (ULD), attending campaign rallies in his political stronghold of Chungchong and Kangwon provinces, tried to fan regional rivalries by claiming that these areas have been traditionally excluded from political power by the other parties.

Cho Soon and Chang Ki-pyo, of the splinter Democratic People's Party, delivered speeches in the Pusan and Kyongnam areas critisizing the MDP and GNP for their abuse of political power and political use of the North Korea issue.
