Ballot Boxes Seized By District Courthouses

Ballot boxes used to collect votes for the 16th General Election in regions where winners were decided by a narrow margin have been transferred to the several district courthouses in Korea.
On April 15, Judge Hwang of the Seoul District Courthouse accepted defeated Grand National Party (GNP) candidate Jin's request for the preservation of ballot box evidence. Jin was defeated by candidate Sul of the Millennium Democratic Party (MDP) by a margin of 113 ballots in Yongsan, Seoul.
Judge Song of the North branch of the Seoul District Courthouse also accepted a request for the preservation of evidence by MDP candidate Huh, who was defeated by GNP candidate Kim Y.K. by a mere 11 votes in Tongdaemun, Seoul.
Requests for the preservation of evidence were also made by MDP candidate Kim who was defeated by a margin of 19 ballots in Ulchin-Ponghwa, Kyongsangbuk province, and by MDP candidate Mun who was defeated by 3 votes in Kwangju, Kyunggi province. Both these requests were accepted.
The seized ballot boxes will remain in the Seoul District Courthouse until the trial of invalidation begins.
