MDP Politician's Thoughts on April 19 Uprising Anniversary

At ceremonies observing the April 19 Uprising, spokesperson for the ruling Millennium Democratic Party (MDP) Chung Dong-young stated on the day's 40th anniversary that this event led Korea towards democracy and the spirit of the day would play a crucial role in unification and reconciliation to be discussed at the coming two Korea summit.

Chung continued that the nation has been "taken over by the spirit of April 19" and would achieve peace and prosperity. He concluded with subtle advice to the opposition parties who should support his party's efforts through more "cooperative politics."

The MDP's Suh Young-hoon, secretary-general Kim Ok-doo, and Lee jae-jong of the party's policy planning committee also observing the solemnities of the day, paid reverance at the cemetery for those who died during the April 19 Uprising.
