Meeting Between the Defense Ministers of Korea and Japan
The defense ministers of Korea and Japan, meeting in Tokyo on the morning of May 22, discussed their respective defense policies and their plans for improving relations between the defense establishments of the two countries.During the meeting, Korean Minister of Defense Cho Seong-tae explained the signifigance of the upcoming inter-Korean summit talks and the government's current 'Sunshine Policy' to his Japanese counterpart, Kawara Tsutomu. In exchange, Minister Kawara congratulated South Korea on the upcoming meetings and conveyed his hopes for a successful outcome.
The two coutries agreed that an increase in military cooperation between the two nations will help improve both military trust and future relations. They also promised to hold regular meetings between the two nation's joint chiefs of staff.
