Chung Mong-joon to Run in 2002 Presidential Election
On May 24, a Japanese newspaper reported that independent lawmaker Chung Mong-joon has expressed his intention to run in the 2002 presidential election."After the 1997 currency crisis, people began expecting a lot more from the government. I have studied economics as well as business, and I have experience in managing a company. I am thinking of running in the next presidential election," said Chung Mong-joon during an interview with a Japanese news correspondent in Seoul.
When asked if he would join a certain political party, Chung remained indefinite, saying, "Nothing is confirmed so I won't rush any decisions I have to make. I've got plenty of time to work out the details."
