You Meets President Clinton

May 25 marked one of the busiest days this year for U.S. President Bill Clinton. Clinton was pressed for time because of the debate over a bill granting China permanent normal trade relations. The bill later passed the House of Representatives giving Clinton a hard earned foreign affairs victory.

But even on a day like this, Clinton was nice enough to give 20 minutes of his time to meet a provincial governor from Korea in the White House.

Governor of North Cholla Province You Jong-keun, who is currently on a trip to the U.S. to attract foreign investments to the province, met with Clinton on May 25. After the meeting You told Korean reporters in Washington D.C. that he met with President Clinton through an introduction made by President Clinton's brother Roger. Governor You, however, did not disclose the contents of the meeting.

There are mixed reviews on the meeting Governor You had with President Clinton. You used to be President Kim Dae-jung's economic advisor leading some people to believe that You may have played the role of a messenger from President Kim sent to explain the inter-Korea summit talks to Clinton. Others speculate that You was just a guest of Roger Clinton.
