Former President Roh Visits China

June 07,2000
"A summit is meaningful in itself," said former president Roh Tae-woo on June 7 before departing for China at the request of the Chinese People's Diplomatic Institute.

"Since South and North Korea are so different in many ways, it would be most difficult to become one in a short period of time," he added.

"While in China, I'll ask for China's support for the upcoming South-North talks," Roh said on his scheduled meetings with Chinese leaders, including President Jiang Zemin. The former president of Korea will give a keynote address titled, 'The Forthcoming Cooperation of Korea and China,' at the Korea-China Future Forum opening June 10.
