Reporters Sans Frontieres Appeals to South Korean Gov't

Reporters Sans Frontieres (RSF) announced on June 21 that they have expressed their concerns over a recent sanction on a JoongAng Ilbo journalist, in a letter to Chong Wa Dae spokesman Park Joon-young.

Robert Menard, general secretary of RSF, asked Chong Wa Dae to allow journalist Kim Jin-kook to return to his former post covering the activities of the South Korean president, saying that "South Korean laws guarantee freedom of the press."

RSF, established in 1985, is an international group defending press freedom and human rights, with its head offices in Paris. RSF has a membership of 150 correspondents around the world to cover cases where freedom of the press is threatened and issues letters of protest to violating countries, with the support of international organizations including UNESCO and the EU.
