Plenary Session Passes Pharmaceutical Revision Bill

The National Assembly passed the pharmaceutical revision bill which distinctly divides the duties of doctors and pharmacists at the July 31 plenary session.

The session was led by the Millennium Democratic Party (MDP), with splinter United Liberal Democrats (ULD), and representatives of other minor parties and independent lawmakers in attendance. In spite of the conspicuous absence of Grand National Party (GNP) lawmakers, the session achieved a quorum, i.e. enough members in attendance to conduct National Assembly affairs.

The National Assembly voted in favor of a bill urging a revision of the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) between Korea and the U.S.

The GNP didn't block the MDP-dominated plenary session from passing the pharmaceutical revision bill, reasoning that the bill is the result of an agreement between president Kim Dae-jung and GNP party president Lee Hoi-chang.
