Minister Jin Nyum Likely to Be Designated New Finance & Economy Minister

President Kim Dae-jung will most likely carry out a reshuffling of his cabinet around August 3 or 4. Chong Wa Dae, on the afternoon of August 2, cancelled the weekly report by Suh Young-hoon and other Millennium Democratic Party (MDP) senior lawmakers scheduled for August 3.

High-ranking officials in the MDP said on August 2, "With the halt of the extraordinary session of the National Assembly, the date for the reshuffle has been reset." They also explained "it is an attempt to settle unstable sectors in government."
A cabinet reshuffle was originally scheduled to take place after the Assembly had passed amendments to government organization laws .The changes will affect Minister of Education Moon Yong-lin and Ministry of Finance and Economy Lee Hun-jai in addition to 8 to 10 other ministers.

Jin Nyum, the minister of Budget and Planning, is expected to become Minister of Finance and Economy. Kim Jong-in, former Health and Welfare minister, is also being discussed as a potential candidate.
