New Cabinet Member to be Appointed Early Next Week

President Kim Dae-jung will appoint new cabinet members, including a new Finance & Economy minister, around August 7, according to Han Kwang-ok, chief presidential secretary.

"Early next week, the president will assign new cabinet members," said Han on August 3.

Regarding the number of newcomers, a high official remarked, "A medium number," so it is estimated that 8-10 people will be appointed.

If the new bill on government structure passes the National Assembly, the Finance & Economy and Education ministers will become deputy prime ministers. Han commented, "Deputy prime ministers will be in consideration." President Kim will get consent from prime minister Lee Hang-dong for the appointment and receive recommendations from the United Liberal Party.

Kim will also change 3 or 4 secretaries in the presidential office, according to a source in the administration.
