President Kim Appoints New Chief Secretaries

On August 27, President Kim Dae-jung appointed three new chief secretaries of Chong Wa Dae as he prepars for the second half of his administration, placing the protocol officer Kim Ha-joong as the Chief of National Security replacing Hwang Won-tak.

Succeeding Cho Kyu-hyang, Chung Soon-taek, the superintendent of the Pusan City board of Education, is now the Chief of Education and Cultural Affairs. Also, Choi Kyu-hak, the Department Minister for Foreign Security Policy Coordination, was appointed as the Chief of Welfare and Labor Affairs taking the place of Kim Yoo-bae.

"We appointed people who had actual experience and possessed professional knowledge for the field they will be overseeing in hope that we will not experience any confusion from the reform of the administration," explained the Chong Wa Dae's spokesman Park Joon-young.
