Opposition Makes Demands Regarding Hanvit Scandal
The opposition Grand National Party (GNP) reconfirmed its position Sunday that both a special prosecutor and a parliamentary investigation are needed to thoroughly dispel lingering public suspicions over the Hanvit Bank illegal loan scandal.Kwon Chul-hyeon, GNP spokesman, flatly rejected the ruling party offer that parliamentary investigation take place in lieu of special prosecution and reiterated his party's previous position. The GNP plans to hold a protest rally in Pusan on September 21.
Meanwhile, the GNP issued a white paper earlier in the day outlining its position on providing food aid to North Korea. One of the notable features contained in the white paper is the proposal to organize a special inspection committee to prevent North Korean authorities from allocating food aid to the military.
