Kim Dae-jung Wins 2000 Rafto Award for Human Rights

The Norway-based Rafto Foundation for Human Rights on Thursday announced that it will honor President Kim Dae-jung with the 2000 Rafto Award for Human Rights.
The organization praised Kim's efforts to advance human rights, democracy and reconciliation with North Korea.
Previous recipients of the award include Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi in 1990, the people of East Timor in 1993 and an anti-war Chechen group, "Mother of Soldiers," in 1995.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in Bergen, Norway on Nov. 5.
