Party Leaders To Meet Thursday

Floor leaders of the ruling and opposition camps covered enough ground Tuesday to make possible a two-way meeting between President Kim Dae-jung and the opposition leader Lee Hoi-chang, probably on Thursday.
In a meeting between Chung Kyun-hwan of the ruling Millennium Democratic Party and Chung Chang-wha of the Grand National Party, the two considerably narrowed differences on three outstanding issues that have kept the two camps away from the parliamentary floor for more than a month, said officials from both parties. The parties have been bickering over designating a special prosecutor to look into the Hanvit Bank loan scandal, investigating suspected election irregularities by ruling party members and a controversial bill hurried through by the ruling party in July.
