U.S. Advance Team Expected in North Korea

The United States will send an advance team to North Korea soon in preparation for a visit, possibly this month, by Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, according to a Washington source.

"We have decided to dispatch an advance team. The chief delegate is not likely to be the U.S. North Korea policy coordinator or the U.S. special envoy for Korean affairs, but a lower-ranking State Department official," the source said.

Mrs. Albright has accepted an invitation to visit North Korea and its leader, Kim Jong-Il.
The United States and North Korea said last week that Mrs. Albright will visit Pyongyang soon to pave the way for a visit by President Bill Clinton. He will be the first U.S. president to travel to the North.
