Ministry of Culture and Tourism Attracts Women

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism is the first choice of government service for some qualified women candidates who recently passed the National Civil Service Examination.

According to the Culture and Tourism Ministry, four women -- Lee Jung-mee, Lee Yong-ah, Chae, Soo-hee and Shin Eun-hyang -- ranked first, fourth, eight and tenth respectively among 84 applicants on the national exam. The women all applied to become trainees in the Culture and Tourism Ministry.

"In contrast to the 20th century, in which economy was valued the most, culture and leisure will determine the national strength in the 21st century," one ministry official said, explaining why more women are applying for the post.

On having a large number of women apply to work for the ministry, another official said, "I guess the work here is more suitable for women, because it requires aesthetic sentiments as much as rationality."
